A short distance outside of Jasper lies Maligne Canyon, the deepest canyon in the Rockies.
The hike is about 3.7km one way. It can be done as either a one way hike with a shuttle car or 7.4km round trip. Maligne Canyon feature steep cliffs towering over the narrow canyon that is fed by underground streams along the Maligne river. Between the stunning vistas that surround you and the turbulent waters below, you won’t have any shortage of eye candy.
The trail is groomed for the majority of the way which makes it good for family members of all ages. Information signs can be found along the way detailing the geological history of the canyon. Bridges that criss-cross the canyon provide plenty of opportunities for photos.
Once you reach the bottom of the canyon, you can follow the riverbed back up a piece. In the winter ice walk tours are available for those wanting to venture into the frozen canyon. Maligne Canyon is worth the stop on any trip through Jasper.
